| Our outreach program is very different from most others in that we don't simply offer a performance for the schools. We offer actual knowledge and elementary skills of voice lessons and sight reading and composition. In a day where young children think that music comes from a silver disc through a black speaker, we want to expose them to how music actually begins. We bring music back into the schools. |
| Our artists teach the children elementary skills in singing, sight-reading, and composing, but we also teach them what we think is most important; the WHYs. Anyone can learn then try to teach the basic note names and values, but it takes an artist to teach them Why that note should go here or Why this note should be shorter and sung softer. This is something only an artist can bring to the lessons. We encourange the students to decide what they think the note should sound like or how high it should be, and Why. |

| These lessons not only teach valuable spacial reasoning skills, they also give the children a chance to be creative which is something that COLA values highly. These skills will help them in other areas of their young lives in whatever it is that they choose to do. |
