CINDY LOU! is a warm, sweet, and funny new opera which introduces opera to the audience with a message about animal rescue. Danielle (sung by Susan Asbjornson), lives alone in a gorgeous house in the relaxed and playful Los Angeles suburb, Hermosa Beach. She works as an entertainment lawyer, constantly surrounded by handsome single movie stars like George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, and Benicio Del Toro, and is passionate only about her work - until a very sweet little Pug dog named Cindy Lou (sung by Lauren Furman) catches her attention on a visit to a local shelter.
In this piece, the little Pug, Cindy Lou (sung by Lauren Furman) learns from the other dogs in the pound (sung by Franz Stary, Lisa Boyd, Elender Wall, Elizabeth Ackerman, Christine L. Rains, and Lucia Lynn) that the mean dog Grunt (sung by Paul Cummings) is going to die in one more day. Cindy Lou asks asks, "Why? Is he ill?" The dogs explain that they are only kept in shelters for 4 days and that the tags that they wear say the date that they came here and the date that they die. Cindy Lou sings a prayer:
"The worst will come I fear,
Another day is gone.
There's so much sadness here,
For the dawn."
